You may or may not choose to showcase your roommate's side of the room alongside your own, it's up to you and your roommate! Please get their permission before photographing their space.
Don't know what a lottery pick is? It's essentially first dibs on room selection! Lottery winners are among the very first time slots in the room selection process, so you can be sure you will get one of your top preferences. Plus, you get to bring your roommate group with you to your chosen location on campus!
Submissions will close with the Priority Housing Application on November 12. We'll unveil the winner soon after via a Carolina Housing social media post and send a direct email to the lucky winner.
Please remember to ensure your room photos comply with Carolina Housing's policies. Any imagery or objects prohibited on the University campus will result in rejection of your submission. (ex: string lights, LED strip lights, candles, etc)
Looking for some tips to help you get ahead of the competition? Here's our advice:
- Take a high-quality photos. Have a digital camera or know someone who does? Use it! If using your phone, make sure you have your photo settings on the highest quality. Send us wide shots of your whole room/side of your room but feel free to also submit close-ups and alternate angles!
- Good lighting. Wait for the sun to make your room light and bright to get the best photo - unless you have some fun colored lighting you want to show off in the dark.
- Showcase your personality. The best rooms tell a story about the people who live there! We hope to see rooms that show who you are and the memories you've made here on campus.
- We suggest using your bedroom, but if you have a sweet living room set up in Morrison Super Suites/Rams or a 5-star bathroom set-up, feel free to include these photos as well.
- Clean your room!!! We didn't think we had to say it...but we do! 👀

Carolina Housing (hereinafter referred to as “Sponsor”) is committed to ensuring that all contests and giveaways (collectively referred to as “Promotions”) conducted during the Housing Selection marketing campaign are carried out with integrity, transparency, and fairness. These Official Rules shall govern all aspects of the Promotions, and by participating, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
Eligibility and Participation
All Promotions are open only to students who are currently enrolled and in good standing with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sponsor reserves the right to verify eligibility. Employees of Carolina Housing and its affiliates are not eligible to participate. Participation in any Promotion constitutes full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding.
Modification of Rules
Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify, suspend, or terminate the Promotions or any part of these Official Rules at any time and for any reason, including but not limited to, in the event that tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other cause beyond Sponsor’s control corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of any Promotion. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any individual who violates these Official Rules or attempts to manipulate the entry process.
Golden Ticket Lottery Tabling Events
To participate in any Carolina Housing Golden Ticket Lottery Tabling Event, students must present their UNC One Card, either in physical or digital form, to a Carolina Housing staff member to be eligible for a ballot entry. Students without their One Card or who choose not to present it will not qualify for entry at that specific tabling event. One Card verification ensures that all entrants are currently enrolled students at UNC Chapel Hill and that each student is entering solely on their own behalf. Submitted ballots may only contain the name of the individual physically present at the event; entries submitted on behalf of roommates or others not in attendance will not be accepted. Students may attend and submit one ballot entry per tabling event and are encouraged to invite roommates to join. Winning a Golden Ticket entitles the winner to choose their residence hall for the following year, and they may opt to bring their entire roommate group to share in the chosen selection.
Photo and Video Submissions
By submitting any photo, video, or other content (collectively referred to as “Submissions”) in connection with a Promotion, the entrant hereby grants to Carolina Housing an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, edit, modify, distribute, and publicly display the Submissions, in whole or in part, in any manner and for any purpose, including but not limited to marketing, promotional, and educational uses, across all media platforms, including, but not limited to, social media, websites, print, and digital publications. Entrant warrants that they have the rights and permissions necessary to grant this license and that the Submission does not infringe on the rights of any third party. Sponsor reserves the right to reject or remove any Submission that it deems, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate, offensive, or non-compliant with these Official Rules.
Ballot Stuffing Prohibition
Each student attending a Carolina Housing Lottery Tabling event is permitted to submit one (1) ballot entry per event. Students who are found to have submitted multiple entries through fraudulent means, otherwise known as “ballot stuffing,” will be disqualified from all ongoing and future Carolina Housing Promotions. Sponsor reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate action, including disqualification, against any individual suspected of ballot stuffing or other forms of tampering.
Golden Ticket Restrictions
Students who receive a Golden Ticket as part of any Promotion are strictly prohibited from selling, transferring, trading, or otherwise conveying their Lottery Pick/Golden Ticket to any other individual, whether or not that individual is eligible to participate in the Promotion. Violations of this provision will result in immediate disqualification from all current and future Promotions, and Sponsor reserves the right to revoke the Golden Ticket and any associated privileges.
Eligibility for Future Prizes
In the event that a student is awarded a prize that must be scheduled for fulfillment at a future date, such as an experience or benefit that will be received weeks or months after the initial award, the student must remain in good standing with Carolina Housing and maintain an active housing application or contract at the time the prize is fulfilled. Any student who cancels their housing application or housing contract prior to the scheduled fulfillment of the prize will forfeit the prize and will no longer be eligible to receive it. Sponsor reserves the right to select an alternate winner if a student becomes ineligible due to the cancellation of their housing.
Conflicts and Discrepancies
In the event that any information or details regarding a Promotion, as published on the Carolina Housing website, in promotional materials, or through any other communication channel, conflicts with the terms of these Official Rules, the terms set forth herein shall take precedence and govern. Any such discrepancies shall not be interpreted to diminish or alter the binding nature of these Official Rules.
Random Drawing Procedures
All random drawing Promotions, including but not limited to Lottery Raffle drawings, will be conducted in a manner consistent with Sponsor’s commitment to fairness and transparency. The odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible entries received. Sponsor reserves the right to select alternate winners in the event that a prize is not claimed within the timeframes outlined below.
Prize Claim Process
Any student who is selected as a winner in connection with a Promotion must promptly respond to Carolina Housing via email to affirmatively claim their prize or make arrangements for prize pickup. If a winner fails to respond after reasonable efforts to contact them have been exhausted, Sponsor reserves the right to select an alternate winner. The determination of what constitutes “reasonable” efforts shall be made solely by Sponsor, taking into consideration the nature of the prize, the timing of the Promotion, and any logistical factors that may arise. Sponsor will provide a transparent explanation for the selection of an alternate winner should such a scenario occur.
Limitation of Liability
By participating in the Promotions, entrants agree to release and hold harmless Carolina Housing, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and their respective employees, officers, directors, agents, and affiliates (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability, loss, harm, damage, injury, claim, or cause of action arising out of participation in the Promotion, the acceptance, use, or misuse of any prize, or any participation in Promotion-related activities. The Released Parties are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors, technical failures, or any unauthorized human intervention.
