Happy Valentines Day: What We Love About On-Campus Life!

February 13, 2024 |

By Sophia Raspanti

Happy Valentines Day, Tar Heels! In the spirit of February 14th, we’ve been thinking about all the wonderful things there are to love about living on campus. From exciting partnership spaces such as the BeAM Makerspaces, Morrison Art Studio, and Carolina Gaming Arena to accessibility to the dining halls, beautiful outdoor scenery, study spaces, and more… there’s so much to enjoy about campus life. Let’s take a look at some of these awesome spaces:

  • The Carolina Gaming Arena

Looking for a place to unwind after a stressful day of classes? The Carolina Gaming Arena, located at Craige Residence Hall, is a fun place to relax solo or with friends. Itching to get your hands on a brand-new game? The Carolina Gaming Arena has all the newest games, available to play for free on cutting-edge equipment. If you’re new to the gaming scene, there’s no need to worry: the Gaming Arena welcomes players of all experience and skill-levels. So, if you have some free time and are looking for a new hobby or a way to unwind, we recommend making a stop by the Gaming Arena!

P.S: Not a gamer? Swing by the Morrison Art Studio and get artsy! Feeling creative? Make a stop by BeAM and create something new!

  • Chapel Thrill Escapes

Not many universities are home to on-campus escape rooms. In 2018, two Morehead Cain scholars, Cam Champion and Philip Smart, founded the organization with the idea of creating a permanent escape room on campus that was completely created, maintained, and operated by Chapel Hill students. Today, Chapel Thrill Escapes is a completely student-run nonprofit organization that welcomes all UNC students to participate in their 90-minute challenge: Ramses in Wonderland. All you need to book a time slot is your PID. Bookings ask for a minimum of 3 people, as you’ll need a clever team to escape in the allotted time, with a maximum of 8 individuals. The rest is up to you: can you escape?

  • The Coker Arboretum

Located on North Campus by Spencer Residence Hall and the Kenan Community, the Coker Arboretum is a beautiful outdoor campus space available to all. As spring approaches, the arboretum is beginning to bloom. Reconnect with nature by spending some time in the gardens. There are multiple walking trails, picnic benches, and open spaces available for student use.

There are so many wonderful things to note about life on campus, we can’t begin to cover them all. What are your favorite things about on-campus life? Send us a message on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter at @CarolinaHousing.
