This past weekend, Lenovo Legion, a Carolina Gaming Arena partner, hosted an incredible giveaway event. Lucky students walked away with high-end Lenovo Legion gaming laptops, keyboards, mice, and exclusive Carolina Housing swag!
I got the chance to attend the event in the SASB Courtyard, and students quickly lined up to compete and filled the courtyard with excitement. Lenovo Legion invited two gaming influencers, Krissy, and Lindsey, to challenge UNC students in friendly competition.
So how could students win? Students had to win five straight rounds of either Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8 to win a brand-new Lenovo Legion gaming laptop. If the student won at least 1/5 rounds then they walked away with a smaller prize of their choice, a new keyboard, mouse, Lenovo backpack, or Carolina Housing swag!
I had the opportunity to chat with the winning students and here is what they had to say:
Tyler, a sophomore living in Morrison won a laptop and said, “I'm extremely excited. I'm a little bit shocked. I'm still processing it all. It's going through my head, but I'm very excited. I'm happy.” Tyler’s Suitemate Nathan also challenged the streamer and walked away with a Lenovo gaming mouse.
A first-year student who lives in Hinton James and had no prior Street Fighter experience won a laptop, here is what she had to say, “I can't believe it. I'm having the best day. Great second day on campus. This is a lesson to anyone. Just try everything. If an opportunity is presenting itself to you, do it because it's going to be super fun.” She was so excited and immediately called her parents to share the news, what a fantastic way to start the semester right?!
I also got the chance to talk with Lindsey who is a content creator for Lenovo Legion. Lindsey told me about her background in the gaming industry and how she was able to build a community online, “I've been streaming for a while now. And it's just been great being able to build a community and grow and find new people to grow with me. And being a female, it's great to kind of break that barrier and bring something new. I just love what I do. And it's a great experience.”
