Don’t Break the Lint Traps: Here’s the Right Way to Clean Them!

August 26, 2024 | |

By: Matt Bertram

At Carolina Housing, we’re committed to providing a clean and functional living environment for all of our residents—and that includes our laundry rooms! Recently, we’ve noticed that some of the lint traps in the dryers have been getting damaged. The reason? They’re being bashed on trash cans to clean them, and while it might seem like a quick fix, this practice is actually causing the traps to break.

Here’s why this matters: when lint traps break, it becomes harder for dryers to do their job efficiently, and that can lead to longer drying times, more energy usage, and ultimately, broken machines that need to be repaired or replaced.

The Easy Fix: Clean Gently, Not Forcefully

Instead of hitting the lint traps on the trash can to clear the lint, we ask that you use your hand or a paper towel to gently remove the lint from the screen. Once you’ve cleaned it off, just put the lint trap back in its slot in the dryer.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide:

1. Remove the Lint Trap: After your laundry cycle is done, gently pull the lint trap out of the dryer.

2. Clean with Care: Using your hand or a paper towel, gently peel off the lint from the screen. It should come off easily!

3. Dispose of the Lint: Toss the lint into the trash, making sure it doesn’t fly away.

4. Replace the Lint Trap: Place the cleaned lint trap back into its slot in the dryer before starting your next load.

Let’s work together to keep our laundry rooms in top shape. A little care goes a long way!
