I feel somewhat in shock that the semester’s halfway point is almost here because in many ways it still seems like I’ve only just stepped onto campus. However, one piece of stability is that I’ve started to develop a set routine that keeps me productive and grounded throughout the week.
Of course, as a full-time student living on campus, my days fluctuate and I’m often on the go. This post gives you a look into a day in my life on one of my busier days, Tuesday, Oct. 1.
9:30 a.m. — On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I get to sleep in a little bit because I don’t have classes until the afternoon. Today, I had a leisurely morning showering, brushing my teeth and getting ready for my classes.
11 a.m. — My roommate and I went to breakfast at Lenoir, which is convenient because we live in Cobb, just a short walk away. For breakfast, I had a bagel with veggie cream cheese, a banana, strawberries and coffee.
12:30 p.m. — After breakfast, I went to my first class which is English 105i in Dey Hall. We got let out early, so I got to really enjoy my walk to my next class. At this point, the clouds had parted a bit and I got to see some blue sky, which was a nice change after all of the rain.
2:00 p.m. — My second class of the day was my first-year seminar, Staging America. In class, we read a few scenes from Phillip Barry’s “The Holiday” and discussed its portrayal of the U.S. in the early twentieth century.
3:15 p.m. — Since my seminar is in the Center for Dramatic Art, right next door to Cobb, I went up to my dorm room after class for a little break between activities. I made myself a coffee and got ready for the second half of my day.
4:00 p.m. — Just because my classes were done for the day didn’t mean I was. After my seminar, I met up with a friend from my journalism course at Davis Library to work on an interviewing assignment. Afterward, I had a late lunch at Lenoir.
6:00 p.m. — Today was the first meeting of The Daily Tar Heel’s DEI committee meeting, which I am a member of as a staff writer for the paper’s University desk. At the meeting, we discussed goals and some initial plans for the semester.
6:40 p.m. — After the committee meeting, I walked back to campus and found a study spot outside of Wilson Library where I watched the sunset and finished up a few assignments.
8:30 p.m. — My roommate and I met back up in the evening to go to a vice presidential debate watch party at Carroll Hall hosted by the Husmman School of Journalism and Media. At the event, we had pizza for dinner and learned more about our vice presidential candidates.
11 p.m. — The debate ended pretty late, so once it was over my roommate and I walked back to Cobb and called it a night.
As the semester continues to unfold, I can’t help but feel grateful for days like this one — days full of learning, opportunity and fun. I hope that this blog post serves as a reminder that each new day on campus offers new experiences that will eventually become the memories you cherish from your time at Carolina.
