Welcome to the Sustainability Residential Learning Program! Our community is committed to exploring the concept of sustainability and engaging in sustainable service.
While sustainability has its roots in the environmental movement, we examine sustainability as a concept in many areas in addition to the environment, including: activism, creativity, development, economy, education, personal, politics, and the justice system. Our current definition of sustainability refers to systems, either small or large, which are developed with the goal of continued practice or engagement, implemented without reliance on a finite or detrimental resource, and which are equal in their consideration of the well-being of all persons. But this definition is constantly evolving and there is no single “right” definition. Community members are asked to define sustainability for themselves.

What we do
Leadership and Involvement Opportunities:
Not only is this community designed so that community members of all interests and experiences can engage in leadership, its success depends on that member involvement. Members have the opportunity to serve on one of four committees: Social, Education, Service, and Compost. These committees are crucial to the success of this community by planning social and service events and facilitating communication. Outside of the community, members have the opportunity to coordinate service projects with other organizations and are encouraged to serve in leadership positions within them.
The community is run by a student coordinator with the assistance of the Morrison Community Director. Typically the coordinator is a returning student from the previous academic year.
Interested participants should complete an application online through the living learning housing application. Preference is given to first-year students; however, returning students are encouraged to apply. A small number of participants will be selected to return for a second year to serve as leaders for the community.
