Beginning fall 2010, students who have earned less than thirty hours of college credit and are enrolled in twelve or more hours at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill are required to live in campus student housing managed by the UNC Department of Housing and Residential Education. On-campus living provides distinct advantages and optimum learning environments for students.
Students who live on campus are more likely to interact with professors outside of class, attend cultural events, seek employment on campus, and participate in clubs and organizations. Living on campus can contribute to the overall success of the student through specialized programming designed to promote awareness of campus resources, encourage faculty and staff interactions, enhance leadership skills, and develop appropriate academic habits. By getting involved, students develop an identity with the larger university community, quickly develop social networks, and find opportunities for intellectual, spiritual, physical, and occupational growth.
All students who have earned less than thirty hours of college credit and are enrolled fulltime at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are required to apply for on-campus housing either: 1) through the UNC Department of Housing and Residential Education, or
2) through Granville Towers, which is leased through a separate management company but staffed by the UNC Department of Housing and Residential Education.
Exceptions to this policy include:
