Congratuations on your acceptance to UNC!
We in the Department of Housing and Residential Education work to create an inclusive on-campus housing environment that promotes personal development, citizenship, involvement, and leadership for the 8,500 students who live on campus.
The First Year Experience
Our goal for the First Year Experience is to provide you with an academically and socially supportive environment. While living on campus, you will make new friends, immerse yourself in the UNC culture, establish valuable academic connections and identify unique leadership opportunities. Our residence halls are staffed with dedicated professional and student staff members that are here to support you as you transition to Carolina.
Where will first-year students live?
First-year students (who do not opt for a Residential Learning Program) will be assigned housing in one of the designated First Year Experience residence halls:
Students may also choose to live at Granville Towers, as the First Year Experience will be offered on select halls in that location.
How are housing assignments made?
Assignments are made in the order of your randomly-assigned lottery number. You can rest easy knowing that as long as you apply for housing by the May 15 priority deadline, you have an equal chance of getting assigned to one of the halls of your preference.
